Joey Pinkney hired by the Independent Author Index…

As some of you know, I started the Independent Author Index as a one-woman show back in March 2012. It grew quickly from only 12 author profiles to over 250, and the addition of Book Bios and Book Reviews have pushed the number of authors who have been showcased on the site to well over double that amount.

As the owner of the Independent Author Index, I am proud and pleased to announce that celebrity reviewer Joey Pinkney has joined my team!

Although Joey has been a member author of the Index since its inception, he is best known for his work on JoeyPinkney.com, a site he stood up in 2006, where you can find author interviews, author interview trailers and book reviews that Joey Pinkney has done with/for over 850 authors.

In 2009, Joey (along with publisher/editor Elissa Gabrielle) won the African-American Literary Awards Show’s Best Short Stories/Anthology award with Like Father, Like Son. You can find the short story in The Soul of a Man: A Triumph of My Soul Anthology

In 2010, Joey won AAMBC’s Book Reviewer of the Year, and he was also ranked #27 on Ron Knight’s Top 50 Facebook Authors. Joey also won the 2011 MyQOTD Kindle Short Story Compilation Competition, winning a Kindle in the process. You can find his story, Maxine, in the follow-up compilation. Joey’s essay Robert Pinkney: My Grandfather, My Sage was included in 2012’s Gumbo for the Soul: Men of Honor (Special Cancer Awareness Edition). You can also find Joey’s short stories in Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3 of the Independent Author Index Short Story Compilation.

In addition to being an award-winning book reviewer and author, in 2013 Joey Pinkney became a host for Tribe Family Channel on Blog Talk Radio. He can be heard interviewing authors on TFC’s Voices of Wisdom, and season one of the show boasted high ratings for episodes that ran monthly starting in March. The second season of Voices of Wisdom starts later this month, so don’t forget to tune in.

The two-month Literary Festival that Joey hosted for the Tribe Family Channel, featuring prominent African-American authors, also had a highly-rated season. For A September to Remember, Joey interviewed authors Treasure Blue, Rahiem Brooks, K’Wan Foye and Earl Sewell. For An October Like No Other, Joey interviewed Shelia M. Goss, Sh’Moore, Elissa Gabrielle and Donna Hill

Last, and certainly not least, Joey Pinkney is also the national Author Interviews Examiner on Examiner.com.

Joey Pinkney’s major reason for becoming a contributor to the Independent Author Index is that he wants to spend more time pursuing his own literary endeavors. When I asked him about this, he had the following to say:

“If I’m going to do more writing, then I have to scale back my efforts with JoeyPinkney.com and actually do more writing. However, I still want to interact with other authors and help them gain exposure, which is why I’m really excited about contributing to the Independent Author Index and helping you grow its online presence.”

Joey’s serial fiction project, Unholy Days, is a work in progress which he’s been releasing chapter-by-chapter. Because of the amount of time that JoeyPinkney.com requires, he hasn’t moved as quickly as he would like with that project, so stepping back from the 24/7 needs of his own website will allow him to give the Unholy Days project more attention.

When I asked if he’s sunsetting JoeyPinkney.com, he had the following to say:

“Not at all! JoeyPinkney.com isn’t going anywhere. While I’m working on my books, I’ll be cleaning up and optimizing the content that’s already on the site and adding new content. I’ll be offering limited services free of charge to authors who win weekly giveaways that I will be having each month. I will also continue to promote the authors who are already a part of JoeyPinkney.com. The only things that are changing is that all services I offer on the site will be free, and I will be limiting the number of authors who get showcased on the site each month. Again, this is so I can write more.”

Joey will be taking over the responsibility of the new “Author Spotlight” section on the Index, and he’ll also be offering an add-on service to the Book Bio section with Book Bio Trailers, which will be similar to the Author Interview Trailers he’s done up to this point on JoeyPinkney.com. Check them out on his YouTube channel

Joey will also be responsible for a portion of the grid/extended book reviews that will appear on the Index, and he will also lend his digital footprint to the social media campaigns that will soon be offered on the Index.

What does all this mean for authors who appear on the Independent Author Index?

Joey Pinkney has been building an online presence since 2006. Combining his connections on his Twitter [@joeypinkney and @5m5qw], Facebook, Google+ and YouTube accounts, he is connected with over 150,000 other social media accounts in the cyber-sphere. Since he also has a strong presence on sites like Goodreads, Friendfeed and Plurk, there is the added bonus for member authors of the Index to tap into his audiences on those platforms, as well.

Don’t forget that Joey will be having weekly giveaways through JoeyPinkney.com, so authors who interact and/or do business with the Index will have an opportunity to enter to win free exposure on JoeyPinkney.com, also.

Joey’s digital footprint, in addition to my own, means authors who do business with the Independent Author Index have the potential to be seen by the owners of over 300,000 social media accounts with our combined web presence.

On a more practical note, the Index has grow much faster than I’d expected, so Joey will be helping me update old content and post new content, which means there will be less waiting time for member authors who need to have more books added to their profiles and/or who need to have information updated on their book listings, Book Bios, Author Spotlights and so on.

Be on the lookout for other services on the Index as I integrate Joey Pinkney into the fold, and please leave a comment on this post welcoming him as a most-valued new contributor to the site. You do not have to be logged in to comment.

Let me be the first to say “Welcome, Joey Pinkney!”
